Uses

It is used in metabolic and biochemical reactions such as DNA synthesis and repair, protein synthesis, prostaglandin synthesis, amino acid transport, and enzyme activation Thus, every system in the body can be affected by the state of the l-glutathione system, especially the immune system, the nervous system, the gastrointestinal system, and the lungs.

How it works

Low l-glutathione levels are a strong predictor of a possible heart attack. A lack of l-glutathione has been associated with increased free radical and oxidative damage. Oxidative stress is now recognised as a key event in the development of atherosclerosis which can lead to a heart attack or stroke. An initial oxidative injury to a blood vessel triggers the artery to form a cholesterol cap over the area of injury. Over time, this can build up into a fatty plaque which can grow large enough to stop the flow of blood. Thrombus (blood clot) can form over the plaque and break off, blocking supply to blood to vital organs such as the brain (resulting in a stroke) or heart (resulting in a heart attack). Since oxidative injury is the first step in cardiovascular disease, it makes sense that sufficient antioxidant defense is required to stop the damage.

Common side effects

L-Glutathione is Possibly Safe for most adults when taken by mouth, by inhalation, or by injection into the muscle or into the veins. But the possible side effects are not known. Special Precautions & Warnings: Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of l-glutathione during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
